I believe they are cast plaster, although I am not 100% sure. They are heavy and coated with black lacquer that is chipping here and there. Very unique and mysterious bookend pair featuring Chinese or Japanese mythological figures. Each is slightly different, it appears a younger and older version of the same figure (perhaps Shoki?) or father and son each holding a foo dog as if to tame him. They are lovely vintage Asian art statement and conversation pieces that will make a great addition to any eclectic interior. I believe they are cast plaster, although I am not 100% sure. They are heavy and coated with black lacquer that is chipping here and there. They have a resonant tone to them that sounds like metal, but they are nonmagnetic.
