View Meiji Period Japanese Bronze Box with Warrior & Scholar In Relief Engraved Rare with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. Features a Warrior on horseback in relief carrying what appears to be a spear and sword at his side. Each of the four side panels on the box are decorated in a continuous design, starting from the tale of the house on one panel, then the warrior on horseback and trees with landscape. Here for your consideration is this beautiful Meiji Period Japanese bronze box.  The piece measures approximately 2 1/4 inches in height by 2 5/8 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches  at the base.  Features a Warrior on horseback in relief carrying what appears to be a spear and sword at his side.  The opposite side features a scholar in relief reading a scroll and armed with a sword.  Each of the four side panels on the box are decorated in a continuous design, starting from the tale of the house on one panel, then the warrior on horseback and trees with landscape.  Engraved throughout, including the lid with a flower, leafs and vines.  Amazingly detailed, right down to the iris of the eyes on all figures.  The piece also has an Ibushi finish that creates a contrast between the background and the foreground.  The interior of the box has a gilt finish.  Note the way the design and engravings on the lid matches up with the design on the lower panels of the box.  Also an interesting part of the way this piece was designed is how the hairline of the warrior on the lower panel rises above the rim and crosses into the lid.  A true work of art.  Please take a moment to  review the photos carefully as they are an important part of the description and ask questions .
