Here is a beautiful Vintage 16-1/2” Japanese saltwater Akoya pearl necklace with a 14k white gold clasp. The 5.0-6.0mm size and uniformity of the pearls give this necklace a full and elegant appearance. The clasp is white gold filigree and the strand has been carefully cleaned and restrung. Each of the pearls have been carefully hand knotted onto 100% silk cord, which gives the necklace a fresh appearance and feel, along with ensuring that the strand is secure for many years to come. Pearls are characteristic of earlier Japanese akoyas, with a thick to very thick nacre that produces a rich luster, along with growth characteristics (Please see all photos, noting that they have been enlarged for better viewing purposes). They are nearly round to off-round in form. Some variance in luster, with some satiny and others sharp. They have a light Cream coloring with rose overtone.
