The reverse retains its original folding/support construction and is clearly stamped“Germany.”. Wonderful antique German three-dimensional Valentine featuring an elaborate expanding honeycomb tissue-paper construction surrounded by embossed and die-cut flowers, scrollwork and gold accents. When opened for display, the cream, pink and vivid red honeycomb paper expands into an unusually sculptural approximately 6-inch-tall form. The surrounding chromolithographed decoration includes blue forget-me-nots, roses, ornamental scrollwork and gold detailing. A small applied paper verse reads: “To my Valentine In these blue Forget-me-nots, In these fragrant roses too, Read the message fond and true From my faithful heart to you” The reverse retains its original folding/support construction and is clearly stamped “Germany.” Likely dates to the early 20th century, approximately the 1910s–1920s. These elaborate German dimensional Valentines were designed as both greeting cards and decorative tabletop displays. Approximate height: 6 inches . Antique condition with expected age toning, edge and surface wear, minor creasing and small losses/wear to some of the very delicate die-cut elements. Honeycomb structure survives nicely and creates a terrific dimensional display.
