Presented is a mid‑century Masonic Knight of Malta jewel , manufactured by Toye & Co . of London, the distinguished regalia firm later known as Toye, Kenning & Spencer . This example is crafted in sterling silver , finished in gold gilt , and bears a complete set of London hallmarks confirming the year 1953 . The jewel features the traditional white enamel Maltese cross , with finely rendered heraldic lions positioned between the arms — a classic British interpretation of the Knight of Malta emblem. The enamel remains in outstanding condition, with no cracks, losses, or discoloration. The gilt surface retains its original warmth and luster, showing only the most minimal signs of age. On the reverse, the maker’s mark “T & C” is clearly struck, identifying Toye & Co., one of the foremost manufacturers of Masonic and fraternal insignia throughout the 20th century. Adjacent hallmarks include the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard’s head for the London Assay Office, and the date letter “S” in a rounded‑corner square punch, denoting the assay year 1953 . These marks are crisp and fully legible. The jewel is suspended from its original black ribbon and gilt mount , the jewel is in excellent condition, the ribbon has some wear and the gold has tarnish.
