Exceptional matched pair of authentic antique Japanese Arita Imari porcelain double gourd form plates dating to the Edo period (18th century Japanese export ware). These rare porcelain pieces come directly from an important private Japanese art and antiques collection assembled by one of the largest Japanese collectors on the West Coast, formerly located in the Seattle area, Washington. The elegant hyotan (double gourd) form is richly decorated in classic Edo-period Arita / Imari palette using underglaze cobalt blue, iron-red enamels, and hand-applied gilt accents. The design features elaborate geometric diaper patterns combined with flowering plum branches and stylized landscape motifs executed with exceptional refinement and balance. The reverse displays finely painted cobalt scrollwork and underglaze marks consistent with early Japanese export porcelain traditions from Hizen/Arita kilns. Comparable examples of this exact form and decorative school are held in major museum collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where related examples are attributed to Edo-period Hizen ware / Kutani-type porcelain circa 1700. Unlike later Meiji export reproductions, these pieces exhibit the correct early porcelain body, hand-painted detail, age-consistent glaze characteristics, authentic footrim wear, and period construction associated with genuine Edo-period Japanese export porcelain. Dimensions (each): Approx. 6.75" x 4.75" Condition: Excellent antique condition overall for their age. No major chips, cracks, or repairs observed. Minor expected age-related wear to gilt and glaze consistent with authentic 18th-century use and age. Please review all photographs carefully as they form part of the description. An increasingly difficult-to-find collector-grade pair of authentic Edo-period Japanese export porcelain pieces with exceptional provenance and museum-comparable form. Professionally packed with extreme care for safe delivery. Worldwide shipping available via eBay International Shipping. Category: Antiques › Asian Antiques › Japan › Plates.
