The folded paper inside the box states: "Palekh is one of the owrld-famous centres of Russian lacquer painting. The Palekh miniatures originate from the centuries-old Russian art of icon painting, the tradition whcih has been revitalised in the contemporary art of miniature painting on black lacquered art objects made from paper-mache. This little Palekh box measures 1 7/8" long by 1 1/2" wide x 1 3/16" high. It is black lacquer on the outside and red on the inside. On the top are delicately painted characters from a Russian folk tale. According to a paper inside, the folk tale is "Emilya and the Magic Pike," but I don't know.  The folded paper inside the box states: "Palekh is one of the owrld-famous centres of Russian lacquer painting. The Palekh miniatures originate from the centuries-old Russian art of icon painting, the tradition whcih has been revitalised in the contemporary art of miniature painting on black lacquered art objects made from paper-mache.      "Boxes, small chests, and brooches are decorated with delicate miniature paintings depicting Russian fairy tales, folk songs, local customs and classic Russian literature. Brilliant colours and gold and silver hand-painted scroll work make each art object a precious jewel. The Palekh objects are wholly handmade; both the object itself and the miniature scene and ornamentation.      "All the Palekh works are the authors' original designs. No design is duplicated, and each must be approved by the Artistic Council of the workshops and carry their brand trademark.      "The original design of this Palekh box was created by artist Dorofeev and has the registered number 1995."  At the bottom of the paper is written "Emilya and the Magic Pike".  Please see the photos and condition description, as they form part of the overall description.
