There appears to be ared mark on the reverse of the cherub porcelain panel, but it is difficult to see clearly and the porcelain maker has not been positively identified. Beautiful antique French or Continental European mantel clock case , believed to date to the late 19th century, circa 1870–1890 . This elaborate clock case features a richly detailed gilt-metal architectural design with floral garlands, scrollwork, classical ornament and decorative applied mounts. The main case appears to be a cast copper-alloy metal, possibly brass or bronze , while at least some of the applied decorative mounts appear to be gilt spelter/white metal . The exact metal composition has not been tested. The front features attractive pink-ground hand-painted porcelain panels . The larger panel depicts two winged cherubs or putti surrounded by flowers and classical motifs, with an additional narrow floral porcelain panel below. There appears to be a red mark on the reverse of the cherub porcelain panel , but it is difficult to see clearly and the porcelain maker has not been positively identified. The porcelain is therefore conservatively described as Sèvres style rather than attributed to a particular factory. The clock measures approximately 13 1/2" tall x 10" wide x 5" deep . IMPORTANT: The original clock movement, dial and associated mechanism are missing. This listing is for the clock case and porcelain panels as shown only . It is being offered as an antique decorative piece, restoration project or source of period clock parts. Condition is consistent with considerable age. There is wear and loss to the gilt finish, oxidation and patina, surface dirt, discoloration, and wear throughout. Some of the applied decorative elements have damage and/or losses.
