For centuries most of the tribally worn silver jewelry was made by Jewish silversmiths living in the country. Commonly these makers marks or hallmarks can be found either stamped or engraved with the jeweler's signature on small oval or round spots of silver added after the piece was finished. This is a set of two handcrafted antique Yemenite  Bedouin  jewelry components each one is made up of 1 antique authentic Yemen red coral bead, 2 antique granulated silver ball disc beads, 2 jump rings and 2  ethnic silver hollow domed beads which look like bells but do not have inner strikers but they do make sound when they hit together.   This amazing antique Yemenite bead dangle set was handcrafted by Jewish silversmith in Yemen long ago and the longest dangle component of the set  measures 1.58 inches long from the top jump ring to the bottom of the hollow domed beads, the red coral bead on this dangle measures 6mm long by 7.70mm wide and this specimen set  was collected from Yemen and they are all  in  great condition some slight wear.   Yemenite silversmithing goes back in time to the Queen of Sheba and the gifts of jewelry she gave to King Solomon. Later Islamic rule in Yemen imposed a prohibition on jewelry making for the Muslim population at which point Yemenite silversmithing became exclusively the domain of the Jewish community of Yemen. For centuries most of the tribally worn silver jewelry was made by Jewish silversmiths living in the country. These very talented silversmiths used a combination of geometric shapes, filigree work and granulation techniques to create a wide variety of amulets, bracelets, necklaces, chokers and rings. Very often they recycled silver coins and silver jewelry by melting them down to acquire the silver they worked with. Some of these Yemeni pieces have signatures of Hebrew names written in Arabic script also known as 'makers marks'.
