This teddy is excellsior filled and quite solid with a black stitched floss mouth and black floss stitched nose, jointed legs, joined arms, and with a moveable head, and original round shoe button eyes. ANTIQUE GOLD MOHAIR JOINTED TEDDY BEAR 15", CIRCA 1910 - 1920s   Adorable!! Antique 1910 - 1920s American Bear with jointed  arms and legs, and head, has a golden plush mohair with nice facial expression. Some bears are particularly hard to judge as to age. This teddy is excellsior filled and quite solid with a black stitched floss mouth and black floss stitched nose, jointed legs, joined arms, and with a moveable head,  and original  round shoe button eyes.  This teddy bear is a very early  American bear as he has all the following usual characteristics with a front closure seam, triangular shaped head, eye placement, flat head at back, and large round ears and ear placement. His arms, legs and head are articulated and all joints work.  APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS Measures 15" CONDITION All felt hand and foot pads are missing or worn with holes and old stitch repair, as seen in photo.  The bear’s arms legs and arms are articulated and fairly tight. He has come from a non smoking home, he is no stains to mohair. On the back side of his head, tip of one ear,  and on one side of muzzle, there is missing mohair with excelsior exposed, and one side of his face has missing fur. His fur fabric is very strong. His nose has few missing stitches. There are age cracks in his shoe buttoin eyes. He has come from a non smoking home and does not have any musty smells.  I would love him to go to a good home. There is apparent damage to the bear aside from very slight anomalies, consistent with age and use and decades of storage. As found condition and is in good condition for its age.  A worthy addition to one's antique bear collection. As you can see from his photos he is in the most amazing condition. Teddy bears were named for a president of the United States. The first teddy bear was a cuddly toy said to be inspired by a hunting trip made by Teddy Roosevelt in 1902. Morris and Rose Michtom started selling their stuffed bears as teddy bears and the name stayed. The Michtoms founded the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company. The German version of the teddy bear was made about the same time by the Steiff Company. There are many types of teddy bears and all are collected. The old ones are being reproduced.
