Beautifully ornate vintage brass casket box featuring an arched chest-form lid, richly embossed floral and foliate decoration and a vivid deep raspberry-red velvet interior. The exterior is richly decorated on every side with Art Nouveau-style floral and foliate relief, including sinuous scrolling stems, elongated leaves and stylized blossoms. Darkened recessed areas provide dramatic contrast against the warm aged brass finish. The arched lid is topped with an ornate swing handle, while the front features a decorative latch and keyhole escutcheon. Opening the hinged lid reveals a wonderfully saturated red velvet-lined interior that provides a dramatic contrast to the aged metal exterior. No maker's mark has been found. Although the construction and elaborate historicist decoration are reminiscent of European brass caskets produced around the turn of the 20th century, this example is being offered without a specific maker or country attribution. Measures approximately 4.125" W × 2.5" D × 2.5" H, excluding the raised handle. Condition: Preowned vintage condition with age-related patina, oxidation, finish variation and surface wear throughout.
