Heichert cabinet card establishes a Frankfort, Indiana connection, but the tintypes are unsigned and are not being represented as photographs by Heichert. Original Victorian-Era Tintype Photograph Album – Frankfort, Indiana Association – c. 1870s–1880s Fantastic original 19th-century photograph album containing a collection of period tintype/ferrotype portraits, along with an original cabinet-card photograph from L. V. Heichert’s Star Art Gallery, Coffee Block, Frankfort, Indiana. Luther V. Heichert is documented as a photographer working in Frankfort, Indiana by 1884–1885, providing an excellent period and geographic reference for the album. The album contains multiple original tintype portraits featuring men and women in period dress. Several are especially attractive full-length studio portraits with elaborate Victorian clothing, furniture, architectural scenery, foliage, and painted backdrops—including a particularly striking mountain landscape scene. Based on the photographic processes, clothing styles, album construction, studio settings, and the documented Heichert photograph, the collection appears to have been assembled primarily during the 1870s through 1880s. The tintypes appear to have been placed into the album during the period rather than being modern additions. One removable tintype was inspected from the reverse and shows the expected original dark japanned iron plate with clipped corners. The album itself retains its original embossed/textured covers and closure strap. It shows substantial age-related wear consistent with an approximately 140+ year-old photographic album, including worn and torn album pages, edge wear, discoloration, oxidation/surface wear to some tintypes, and deterioration to portions of the binding/closure.
