Antique Meiji Period Japanese Imari Black Ground Gilded Scalloped Plate 8.5'' Dimension: 8.5 inches (21.59cm) This antique scalloped porcelain plate is authentic Japanese Imari ware, made mid Meiji era (circa 1880–1910) for western export trade. Shape & Base: Floral scalloped rim, white porcelain body. Underside marked with double blue ring, hand-painted blue Chinese knot treasures and small red sail flags, classic export base decoration. Front Decoration (Kinzokute Gilded Imari Style): Rich black ground covered with swirling hand-drawn gold vine scrollwork. Six shaped cartouches radiate around the central medallion: three red leaf panels with mythical beast & lotus flowers, three fan-shaped panels depicting coastal waves, antique sailing warships, flying cranes and flaming sacred jewels. The center features a prominent crane inside a moon ring amid reeds and blossoms, crane symbolizes longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture. Vibrant palette of iron red, emerald green, cobalt blue, white enamel and thick hand gilding, fine multi-layer hand painting, all gold detailing largely intact. Condition: Excellent antique condition, no cracks, chips, repairs or hairlines. Only minor light wear to gilding on rim consistent with age, glaze fully preserved.
