It is executed in the distinctive style of Canton famille rose export porcelain, originating from the Guangzhou region for trade with the West. Key Features: • Material & Technique: Crafted from white porcelain, this box employs the famille rose overglaze enamel technique. The entire surface is richly decorated with vibrant polychrome enamels, with prominent use of red, green, and gold gilding. The cover is topped with a unique gilt shell-shaped knob, a hallmark of export porcelain. • Design: The box features a rectangular, lobed-corner form. Both the cover and body are adorned with medallions (openings) depicting scenes of figures in a courtyard and floral-bird motifs, set against a background of scrolling foliage and brocade patterns. This design was specifically created to appeal to Western tastes, blending traditional Chinese iconography with exotic flair. • Condition: This box is in good antique condition. It shows natural signs of age, including minor wear to the enamel, slight chipping and glaze loss along the cover and rim edges, and wear to the unglazed foot ring.
