An especially interesting feature of this postcard is the artist: the reverse identifies I. Gridin (И. Гридин) as a carpenter (столяр) from the Moldavian SSR . The image therefore represents not only Soviet Lenin iconography but also an example of artwork created by a working-class amateur artist. Lenin is depicted in a dark suit and tie against an expressive red background. The portrait uses strong warm red, brown and golden tones, creating a monumental image characteristic of Soviet commemorative art. The postcard was published in Moscow in 1970 by Sovetsky Khudozhnik (Soviet Artist) publishing house. The relatively modest print run was 10,600 copies . Artist: I. Gridin (И.
