Displayed together, these have incredible presence and feel like a thoughtfully collected group rather than ordinary decorative figurines. Each figure is individually sculpted with its own elaborate ceremonial details, including dramatic headdresses, oversized ear ornaments, necklaces, bracelets, modeled facial features and hand-applied decorative elements. The figures depict different poses and objects, including a seated figure holding a pottery vessel, a standing figure carrying an elaborately decorated panel and looped object, and a seated figure wearing an especially striking fan-shaped headdress. The muted terracotta, cream, red and green palette is particularly beautiful, with an earthy, aged finish that gives the collection tremendous character. The hand-worked construction and dimensional applied details are visible throughout.
