The front is centered with an oval transfer print of a courting couple in 18th-century dress seated in a flowering garden, framed by gilt foliage, while the body is decorated with ornate gold scrollwork, beaded swags and columnar bands. A gilt-toned decorative metal band forms the hinge and clasp, separating the lift-off upper half from the footed base so the interior can be used for storage. The gold has some visible thinning and light wear along the raised feet and around the rim, but the cobalt glaze and central scene remain bright and intact.
