While 26-inch saws are standard, this is the highly sought-after  28-inch extra-long model , making it a much scarcer find for vintage tool enthusiasts. Key Features & Historical Details: Authentic Split-Nut Fasteners:  Features the original, recessed brass split-nut screws on the back of the handle. Disston completely phased these out by 1876, pinning this saw perfectly to the early 1870s. 1871–1875 Keystone Medallion:  The crisp brass medallion displays "H. DISSTON & SONS" with the historic "PHILADA." abbreviation, surrounding the classic balance scales inside a double-lined keystone. Premium 28" Aggressive Rip Profile:  Outfitted with massive, aggressively raked teeth filed straight across for ripping lumber along the grain (approximately 5 to 5.5 Points Per Inch). Early 28-inch rip saws are significantly harder to find than standard variants. Original Beech/Applewood Handle:  The handle features a beautifully formed, intact "lamb's tongue" profile. Both the upper and lower horns remain fully intact with no major breaks—a rarity for a tool of this age. Condition Report: The saw is in beautiful, honest "as-found" antique condition. The wood handle shows a gorgeous naturally aged patina with only minor surface nicks from a lifetime of careful ownership. The massive 28" steel blade has a dark gray patina with a faint, readable "CAST STEEL 7 WARRANTED" factory etch. The blade is straight. Note for Users/Restorers:   There is a localized rust pit right along the tooth line (see close-up photo). It will need to be jointed and filed out if you intend to bring it back into daily workshop rotation, or it can be left exactly as-is for a stunning historical display piece.
