This hand-carved alabaster jewelry box is a beautiful example of traditional pietra dura inlay. The translucent alabaster sides are hand-carved with a pierced lattice design, showcasing the artisan’s skill. Measuring approximately 4” x 3” and weighing 8.6 oz, it features semi-precious stones including carnelian, malachite, mother of pearl, and black onyx/slate arranged in a floral motif. The translucent alabaster sides are hand-carved with a pierced lattice design, showcasing the artisan’s skill. Perfect as a trinket box, jewelry holder, or decorative accent, this piece reflects the centuries-old stone inlay traditions. Condition: Overall very good vintage condition. The box shows some light surface wear consistent with age, including fine scratches on the base, a small shallow chip at one underside edge, and a slightly rough spot on the underside (see photos). Neither of these are visible when displayed. The floral pietra dura inlay is intact and vibrant, and the lattice carving on the sides remains crisp. No structural cracks.
